$4,000 More A Year: Trump's New Student Loan Rules Are Officially Here To Take Your Money

Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced that he’s extending the federal student loan moratorium which has allowed millions of Americans to put off debt payments during the covid-19 pandemic.

The initial measures were set to expire Jan. 31. However, under this new action, federal student loan payments will remain paused through May 1 amid surging cases of COVID-19.

“Now, while our jobs recovery is one of the strongest ever, we know that millions of student loan borrowers are still coping with the impacts of the pandemic and need some more time before resuming payments,” Biden said.

“Given these considerations, today my administration is extending the pause on federal student loan repayments for an additional 90 days — through May 1, 2022 — as we manage the ongoing pandemic and further strengthen our economic recovery.”

Federal student loan payments were paused by the Dept. of Education in March 2020 at the onset of the covid-19 pandemic.
