Prince Harry feels his family is not safe when they visit England. He has applied for judicial review of a Home Office decision that kept him from paying for additional police protection while his family was visiting his home country.

Prince Harry, 37, originally applied for the review in September of 2021. He would like to pay for the security himself but is not permitted to do so without UK Home Office granting permission.

The Duke of Sussex, who stepped down from royal duties last year, says he paid for a private security team, but it is not enough. He feels the personal security team is inadequate when traveling to the UK with his wife, Meghan Markle, and children Archie and Lilibet, where the threat is considered greater.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex personally fund a private security team for their family, yet that security cannot replicate the necessary police protection needed whilst in the UK. In the absence of such protection, Prince Harry and his family are unable to return to his home,” a spokesperson said in a statement to Fox Digital.

Prince Harry first felt his security “was compromised due to the absence of police protection” during his July visit. Harry was in the UK to unveil a statue dedicated to his mother, the late Princess Diana.

Senior royals are provided with taxpayer-funded security from the Metropolitan Police. Since stepping down, Harry and Meghan are no longer considered senior royals and not eligible for the added protection.
