This year’s Super Bowl event may be one to remember! Pepsi released the trailer for the joint halftime performance that will feature a few hip-hop legends.
Back in December, the beverage brand announced its plans for a supersized halftime performance that will include five headliners. Ranging from Eminem to Mary J. Blige, Pepsi has decided to go bigger than ever to make this year’s show unforgettable.
Thurdsay Pepsi revealed their three-minute futuristic trailer titled “The Call,” promoting all five of the headliners: Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre.
“The significance of this Halftime show is not lost on us. This is a massive, earth-moving level of talent that we have here. We want to make sure we do [it] right,” says Todd Kaplan, VP of Marketing at Pepsi.
Directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Straight Outta Compton), the teaser features each performer and their greatest hits. Each scene showcases every headliner during their own creative process.
The trailer begins with Eminem lyrically facing off with his rap persona, Slim Shady, with his hit single “Rap God” playing in the background. Then the scene switches to Snoop Dogg driving around blasting one of his hits, “The Next Episode.”
We then see Mary J. Blige at the center of a photoshoot hinting at her fashionable influence while her song “Family Affair” plays. Finally, Kendrick Lamar’s scene rolls in with him seemingly jotting down potential lyrics while listening to his song “Humble.”
Each performer eventually gets a call from producer Dr. Dre and unite at the SoFi Stadium in California, where the Super Bowl will be held.
The show will not only pay homage to the West Coast but will also highlight the musical legacy each performer has created.
