*Trigger Warning* Two young cousins are dead after a video showed one shooting the other before killing herself in a freak accident.
While playing with a gun, 12-year-old Paris Harvey shot and killed her 14-year-old cousin, Kuaron Harvey, before fatally shooting herself.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Susan Dyson, the girl’s grandmother, saw the Instagram Live video the two cousins were making together at the family’s apartment in downtown St. Louis to celebrate their March birthdays.
“It wasn’t a situation where they were arguing or anything like that,” said Dyson. “They were playing with the gun when they shouldn’t have been. Of course, they shouldn’t have been doing it. I think it just went off. It went off by mistake.”
Before the shooting, Paris and Kuaron were alone in a bathroom making a video in the mirror. The footage shows Paris reaching for the gun after Kuaron was fatally shot, and it may have accidentally gone off again. Family members believe the weapon may have been Kuaron’s.
“It was no murder. It wasn’t a suicide,” said Shinise Harvey, 35, Paris’ mother. “It was a freak accident. It happened.”
Shinise said she had not been able to watch the video, but family members had described it to her. She said the cousins were “trying to be too hip.”
She definitely killed herself. She wouldn’t have picked up the gun again if that hadn’t been her intent.
The 12 year old shot her cousin and then felt so guilty about it, couldn’t believe what happened, that she picked up the gun and shot herself.
The gun didn’t go off by accident. Not once, not twice.
In the video you can hear her say: “This is n…” She was about to say “this is not loaded”.
She then pulled the trigger to test it, not thinking about the consequences (a normal behavior for a kid).
Her body was overwhelmed with internal but mostly external guilt and in a split second decision that happened more out of fear than anything else she chose to end her life. Not on accident. On purpose.
Yeah that was no accident at the second shot. She did the right thing. I would hope I would do the same. My hats off to her for her quick thinking and determination to right the ship. Sad, sure, but she would have a completely f’d up life if she didn’t. Good job lil girl, that’s called integrity.
