You’ve heard it before, “why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?” a phrase spoken in reference to women who are giving their boyfriend the benefits of a husband. Whatever that means. While I don’t completely agree with the idiom, I don’t fully disagree either. We all know that girl who goes above and beyond and constantly refers to her boyfriend as “hubby” and we also know that dude who allows her to while knowing full well he hasn’t proven himself worthy of the title nor does he have the intention to do so and make her his wife. There’s another one I hear often and that’s “stop giving your boyfriend husband privileges”. When I first heard this I remember thinking “Well, why would someone want to marry you if you aren’t already showing them the traits they want in a wife?” and I still stand by that to a degree. If I Love you I am going to show you in all the ways that I know and learn the ways in which I don’t. I am not someone who is willing to curb my awesome in order to avoid doing “too much” but I am not going to be with someone who doesn’t reciprocate my efforts or someone who takes that as a their cue to string me along or evade the commitment I desire either.
