Tennessee Woman Uses TikTok Hand Signal To Let Bystander Know She's Being Kidnapped

A Tennessee woman used a hand signal she learned off TikTok to get help and escape a kidnapper.

This past Sunday, a man was at a Twice Daily convenience store when he noticed a woman mouthing “help” to him, and she followed it with a hand signal. The woman’s hand signal was shown by her covering her thumb with her four other fingers.

The good samaritan then went to the store clerk and told him to call the police. He then took a photo of the pickup truck’s license plate the woman was in. When police arrived at the scene, the pickup truck was leaving the lot. A chase then took place and it ended with the truck driver crashing in Dickson County. The driver tried to run on foot, but the police brought him down with a taser and arrested him.

Eric Streeval is part of a motorcycle club that helps out women who have been involved in domestic violence incidents.

“If you see something, say something,” Streeval told WKRN, Fox News reports. “Domestic violence is a bad thing here in Tennessee. The victims, a lot of times they’re too afraid to speak out. And I credit the young lady in this situation with having the world’s most courage of actually speaking out because who knows what would have happened.”

Streeval says he reached out to the woman after the incident and offered her local resources.

“I would just tell her to lean on the family if she’s got family, [or] find a complete stranger,” he said. “If someone’s willing to listen, talk to him. Don’t think everything is bundled up inside. Reach out to somebody and just believe the good in somebody.”

What is the Domestic Violence Hand Signal?
This signal is meant for victims of domestic abuse and it allows them to reach out for help without alerting their abusers. If you see someone doing this sign in public or social media, know that they are reaching out for help. pic.twitter.com/3q45SZQIWR
