Jack Harlow opens up about the backlash and reactions he received after collabing with Lil Nas X on “Industry Baby.” He believes the reactions prove that some work still needs to be done in the hip-hop industry.

In an interview with The Guardian, Harlow reflected on working with fellow artist Lil Nas X. He referred to the “Montero” singer as a “boundary pusher.”

He says, “The totally inappropriate reaction to [Lil Nas X] lets you know that we still have some progress to be made. And you hear it in passing; there’s still some homophobia going on. But he’s taking the hit that artists won’t have to take in the future. That’s what makes him a hero.”

Harlow claims there is so much homophobia directed towards LGBTQ+ artists, and hip-hop needs to improve. On top of collabing with Lil Nas X, the Kentucky rapper joined him on stage for a performance at the Grammys 2022.

Harlow also topped Billboard 200 for his song “Nail Tech” as well as “First Class,” which samples Fergie’s 2006 hit Glamorous.

“Come Home the Kids Miss You” debuted Friday with 15 tracks, including Drake, Lil Wayne, Pharell, and Justin Timberlake features.

Other topics discussed in the interview include Harlow’s eagerness for his career. He says, “But I’m such a futurist that I’m just really hungry. I want to dominate.”
