A Florida truck driver has been arrested and charged after he tried to set a baby on fire at a gas station in New York.

This week, Seneca County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of fires at a gas station in Tyre, New York. When they arrived at the station, they found a baby with flammable liquid all over them. The New York Post reports authorities also found a 4-year-old with head injuries inside a tractor trailer. Both children are reportedly expected to make a full recovery.

One of the men found responsible was 25-year-old Jamie Avery, who is now facing charges including attempted murder, arson and endangering the welfare of a child. Another man was also arrested at the scene and is expected to face charges, according to WABC.

During a news conference, Lt. Timothy Thompson shared the two men’s alleged plot. Avery is believed to be the father of both of the children.

“It is alleged that the two suspects had poured a flammable liquid on the 1-year-old child and attempted to light the child on fire inside the building,” said Thompson. “Luckily the two were unsuccessful.”

He continued: “Circumstances surrounding the 4-year-old are still under investigation,” Thompson said.
