Ballerific Relationships – The Great Date Debate: What’s A “Real Date”?

If you are active on Twitter or have logged in for at least 10 seconds since 2012 you have probably heard of the often spoken of $200 date. I have yet to figure out how this all started but it is a topic that makes me chuckle every time. For some, $200 may seem like too much money for a date and for others $200 is just the tip left for the server after a $535 meal. It seems though, that not many are actually going on these dates as I witness lots of women saying they want to be taken on a ‘real date’.

What IS a date anyway? I’ll tell you what it isn’t. It isn’t us sitting at home and babe going “I’m hungry, let’s go get something to eat!” we throw on something and hit our favorite spot. No, that’s called sustenance, bae. Date: A preplanned event that is meant to evoke feeling(s) of wonder, excitement, joy or lust. That is not an actual definition, however, it is MY definition. When I plan dates I have a purpose and a point to prove. I would hope that if a date is planned for me, the same thing is taken into consideration. Depending on where you are in your relationship, you may know one another well enough to do this effectively or if it’s fairly new I hope they are asking the right questions and actively listening to figure out what you’d appreciate. For me, a date is more about effort and intent than the amount spent. You can book a flight and spend a couple grand or we can spend $0 at a bookstore taking turns reading erotic passages to one another followed by me being pushed against a book shelf and fuc.. wait. Sorry. What was I saying?!

What do you consider a “real date”? Does location and cost matter?
