A former lawyer in Florida will have to serve prison time after he reportedly stole millions from an elderly woman.
Matthew Roby has been sentenced to five years in prison for scamming the now-deceased Helen Kuhn, 108, out of millions. Roby, who served as Kuhn’s former lawyer, illegally gained power of attorney over Kuhn and stole $3 million from Kuhn’s bank account.
Kuhn, who passed away earlier this month, found out about the scam several years back but became overwhelmed by it, Fox News reports.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said, “Roby agreed to a plea deal today that will land him in prison for five years for Exploitation of an Elderly Person and Grand Theft of more than $100,000.”
Roby was arrested back in 2021; he’s since been disbarred and is banned from practicing law in Florida.
