Social media has called out Macy Gray for her comments surrounding trans women during an interview with Piers Morgan.
The “I Try” singer spoke with the controversial host on his “Piers Morgan Uncensored” platform for Monday’s episode. She explained that while she has no problem using a person’s preferred pronouns, Gray says having sexual reassignment surgery does not automatically make someone a woman.
“Just because you go change your parts doesn’t make you a woman,” the crooner stated.
The conversation was surrounding transwomen playing on female sports teams and whether or not that was appropriate. Morgan expressed that he felt it was unfair, to which Gray agreed.
“Like, if you want me to call you a ‘her,’ I will because that’s what you want. But that doesn’t make you a woman, just because I call you a ‘her’ and just because you got a surgery,” Gray said before later adding that no one should be labeled transphobic for thinking this way.
Social media wasted no time calling out the 54-year-old, claiming that her comments were indeed rooted in transphobia.

Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’Day even joined in on the dragging, slamming Gray for downplaying the womanhood and experiences of transwomen.
Gray defended herself on Twitter, stating that while it takes “real balls to be honest about who you are,” the title of “woman” should be earned.
Gray also released a statement via Entertainment Tonight.
