MTV has revealed the list of artists’ nominations for the 2022 VMAs, and it is no surprise who’s on top of the list.
Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X all lead with seven nods each.
Doja Cat and Harry Styles follow closely behind with six nominations, and Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and the Weeknd trail behind with five.
The show is set to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Sunday, August 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Harlow and Lil Nas X have earned multiple nominations for their No. 1 hit collaboration “Industry Baby.”
Madonna, who is MTV’s most-awarded artist in history, reigning in with 20 wins, becomes the only artist to receive a nod in each of the VMAs for five decades (the 1980s-2020s). She has earned her 69th nomination for “Madame X.”
This year’s awards show also has 26 first-time nominees, which include Baby Keem with four and Gayle, Kacey Musgraves, and Måneskin with two each, plus first nominations for Anitta, Becky G, Dove Cameron, Karol G, Itzy, Jid, Muni Long, Tems, Wet Leg and more.
The “VMAs” will continue to simulcast on The CW Network. The show will be available to an expanded broadcast audience, including BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TVLand, and VH1.
Starting July 26, fans can vote for their favorites across 22 gender-neutral categories. Among the categories are “Video of the Year,” “Artist of the Year,” “Best Collaboration,” and two all-new categories, “Best Longform Video” and “Best Metaverse Performance,” by visiting vote.mtv.com. Voting will last through Friday, August 19, 2022.
However, voting for “Best New Artist” will remain active into the airing of the show on Sunday, August 28. Nominations for social categories like “Group of the Year” and “Song of Summer” will be announced at a later date.
