A couple of years ago Baller Alert appeared in an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary titled “Broke”. The documentary discussed Ballers, their bad spending habits, and inevitably going broke if they didn’t get their act together. One of the cautionary tales of Ballers going broke is Antoine Walker, former NBA star and ex-fiancee of Evelyn Lozada.
Walker is promoting his very own ESPN documentary titled “Gone In An Instant” where they discuss his terrible spending, losing his wealth, filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy and of course, Evelyn.
“My thing with Evelyn is she reaped a lot of benefits of my wealth. And when it got tight, she chose to go a different direction. So that’s the problem that I have with Evelyn. That’s more personal…
I dated Evelyn for 10 years. In 1999, I signed my ninth deal in 1999. So she got to reap the full benefits of the whole process. She played her part. You think someone will have your back and that’s my whole thing. Evelyn went on with her reality show and we all know all her relationships she’s been in since me. It hasn’t been about let me make sure Antoine is okay. So that’s a big difference. That’s why I have a problem with Evelyn. It’s more personal. It’s tough when you take care of some people and you make sure that they’re good, their family, their daughters and then they just go left field.
We got engaged in 2007. We broke up for a minute so that’s what delayed the marriage, and towards the end, she left when things hit the fan.”
Sounds pretty interesting. I’d love to hear from a Broke Baller about how he went broke. Hopefully it could be a learning experience for the new guys. Here’s my thing with Antoine and other Ballers like him. They date a certain type of woman because they want a certain type of trophy on their arm and then get mad when their trophy disappears once the well runds dry. Well, what exactly were you expecting to happen? I can’t feel any sympathy here. I’m sure there was some Day 1 chick that was around before the deal that he could have taken on the ride with him if he was concerned about her sticking around.
As far as Evelyn’s thoughts on the whole thing, the Basketball Wives star tweets:
“Gone In An Instant” is scheduled for release next year.
