Tyson Foods CFO Gets Drunk, Enters Stranger's Home and Falls Asleep In Her Bed

Tyson Foods CFO John Tyson

Tyson Foods CFO John Tyson found himself in some drunken trouble after falling asleep in a stranger’s bed.

The 32-year-old was arrested in the early morning Sunday hours after a woman called 911 to report that a strange man was asleep in her bed whom she didn’t know. Police arrived shortly after 2:00 a.m. to find Tyson still napping in the woman’s Fayetteville, Arkansas home. She believed Tyson let himself into her home through her unlocked front door and made himself comfortable in her room.

When authorities tried to wake Tyson, he sat up but could not verbally respond, as he was extremely intoxicated. The executive was “sluggish and uncoordinated,” with police noticing the smell of alcohol on his body and breath. His clothes were found near the bed on the floor, and his identification positively confirmed his first and last name. Thankfully, the unidentified young woman was not harmed. Tyson was ultimately arrested and charged with public intoxication and criminal trespass. By Sunday evening, he’d been released from Washington County Detention Center on a $415 bond.

Tyson’s future as the company’s chief financial officer is uncertain following his arrest. Only having been in his role since September, a scandal such as this could impact the Tyson Foods brand significantly. The company has called the arrest a “personal matter,” seemingly distancing themselves from the antics. He took over the CFO job after Stewart Glendinning took a leadership position with the company’s prepared foods division. Tyson is the son of the company’s chairman, John H. Tyson, and the great-grandson of founder John W. Tyson.

Therefore his privilege and family ties could likely work in his favor and secure his job.

He will appear in court on December 1st.
