Gabby Douglas is making her way back to social media and the gym, eyeing a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The iconic athlete announced that she was taking a hiatus from social media and her gymnastics career. In an August 2022 Instagram post, Douglas shared that she was stepping back to focus on her mental health. She successfully steered clear of the internet for nearly a year before making her return on Thursday. The athlete updated fans with two posts of her inside a gym: one simply captioned, “Loading,” with the other going into more detail regarding her healing journey.
“For many years, I’ve had an ache in my heart, but I didn’t want to keep carrying anger, pain, sadness, or regret, and through my tears and hurt, I’ve found peace. I wanted to find the joy again for the sport that I absolutely love doing,” Douglas wrote.
The 27-year-old has secured multiple titles, including three Olympic gold medals and an all-around silver medal. After retiring in 2016, she is ready to add more awards to her resume.
“I know I have a huge task ahead of me, and I am beyond grateful and excited to get back out on the floor and even more grateful for all of your support and love. It truly means so much,” she continued, also concluding with the hashtag “2024,” which is a strong indication that she will reclaim her place in France next year. If true, this would be Douglas’s third Games.
