Dennis “D.J.” Hernandez, the older brother of Aaron Hernandez, was once again arrested. This time, it was after showing signs of planning school shootings at UConn and Brown University.
Earlier this month, the Bristol Police Department cited signs of D.J. being “gravely disabled and a danger to society.”
In July, several individuals reported to the BPD that D.J. had acted erratically and sent alarming text messages, one of which mentioned plans involving “taking lives” if certain conditions weren’t met.
According to documents, a woman claiming to be D.J.’s ex revealed that he skipped his court date and went to Brown University and UConn, reportedly entering classrooms and buildings. Another person told the police they suspected D.J. of planning campus school shootings.
Police reported that on July 19, D.J. posted threatening messages on his social media page, one of which stated, “Will I kill? Absolutely, I’ve warned my enemies, so pay upfront.”
The documents indicate that later that day, police arrived at a residence where D.J. was present, leading to a frightening standoff with law enforcement.
According to the police, they attempted to persuade D.J. to leave the home peacefully, but he warned them that he was “on foot, armed and that if we approached him, he would kill us all.” After a while, D.J. exited the residence, but the police assert that he “began advancing towards the police with his hands outstretched to his side.”
D.J. has had trouble with the law a number of times this year. Back in March, he was arrested after throwing a brick onto the ESPN headquarters campus and eluding police during brief pursuits in other towns.
