Southwest Airlines Just Made Flying More Expensive for Plus-Size Passengers

Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines is improving benefits for certain fare classes, providing more flexibility for travelers on its “Wanna Get Away” fares.

Passengers in this category will soon have the option of free same-day standby, allowing them to switch to open-seat flights if their plans change.

“Currently, Rapid Rewards tier members and customers traveling on Business Select, Anytime, and Wanna Get Away Plus fares have the flexibility to list on a different flight free of charge on their day of travel,” the airline said. “This new offering expands the benefit to all Southwest customers.”

Southwest will also allow passengers to go online or use the mobile app for standby requests, while the choice to seek standby at the airport will still be available.

Additionally, the airline is broadening its complimentary internet service to travelers buying Business Select fares, while other passengers will still have to pay $8.
“A-List Preferred Customers already receive free Inflight Internet, and Customers who purchase Business Select fares will too, with the ability to connect up to three devices per leg for free when this offering launches,” the statement read.
According to a spokesperson for the airline, an official roll date has not been announced, but it is expected to be available by the end of the month.
