Fortnite players can now apply to receive a refund from Fortnite maker Epic Games’ after the company reached a $245 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
The FTC alleged that Fortnite players accidentally bought in-game goods because of design tricks, The Verge reported.
The agreement was announced as part of a broader $520 million settlement at the end of 2022.
Players can visit www.ftc.gov/Fortnite to apply for a refund and get additional information. The FTC says that you can apply if any of the following is true:
- You were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022;
- Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018, and
- Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges.
Players have to be 18 or older to complete the refund form. The FTC says a parent must complete it for those underage.
If you’re eligible, you’ll need to enter a claim number sent to you by the FTC or your Epic Account ID.
The Verge reported that players have until January 17th, 2024, to apply, and the refund amount will “depend on several factors, including how many people file a claim.”
Payment dates have not been disclosed.
