Tulum, Mexico, is awaiting its new airport and ahead of its opening are the announcements by airlines who plan on flying to the new hub.

One of the latest is Spirit Airlines. The low-cost airline announced it will offer once-daily flights from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Orlando (MCO) to the Felipe Carrilo Puerto International Airport (TQO) starting on March 28, 2024.  The company already has routes to Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, Monterrey, and Puerto Vallarta.

Tickets are on sale on the airline’s website and start as low as $149 for a one-way ticket. Passengers flying on Spirit will fly on its Airbus A320 for its inaugural flights, Travel + Leisure reported.

“Our direct flights from Florida will make a getaway to Mexico’s enchanting coastline more accessible than ever, just in time for spring break,” John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, said of the announcement. “We have a long history of serving Mexico, and Tulum’s new airport is a great addition that will make it easier for our guests to get to the city and enjoy its beaches, history, and variety of unique experiences.”

Delta Airlines previously announced its routes to Tulum’s airport from its Atlanta hub.  However, Spirit will become the first ultra-low-cost airline that will offer nonstop routes to Tulum’s new airport.
