The Big 12 has released the schedule for the upcoming season, allowing us to compare Coach Deion Sanders‘ and the Colorado Buffaloes in their new conference after the Pac-12 was banished.
The Buffs will be playing the likes of Texas Tech, Kansas State, and familiar foes like Arizona that will try to slow down Shadeur Sanders and his squad. However, there are concerns about the defense, and many wonder if the team can become bowl-eligible under the leadership of Travis Hunter and Shilo Sanders.
Soon after the season was over, defensive coordinator Charles Kelly suddenly left to be the co-defensive coordinator at Auburn this upcoming season. His departure was followed by several other personnel leaving, leaving question marks around Deion Sanders and his team as they prepare to change conferences.
Coach Prime appeared on Undisputed this week with Keyshawn Johnson and Skip Bayless and reassured fans that their search for a new defensive coordinator is on track. They will likely announce the new coach joining within the next few days.
“We’re probably going to hire a defensive coordinator within the next two days, maybe even today. We had to allow those pro guys to get all of those interviews out now we’ve identified a few of them,” Coach Prime told the duo. “I want a pro guy that can teach and instruct at another level. That’s what we have on the offense, that’s what we pretty much have on the whole darn staff is guys that have taught and played the pro game, because that’s where these guys are headed.”
During the conversation, Sanders expressed his desire to provide a “navigational system” to the players that would help them become the best they could be. He emphasized the importance of not only making it to the next level but also staying there. As you develop a program, it is crucial to ensure that the staff can teach based on their experiences rather than relying solely on analytics.
