Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, has submitted a legal brief aiming to dismiss the YSL RICO case. This development comes in the wake of a significant legal reversal in Georgia linked to the hip-hop community, as reported by Law & Crime. In a landmark decision on Tuesday, Georgia’s Supreme Court overturned Morgan Cardelle Baker’s 2019 conviction for the murder of a security guard. The court found fault with the presentation of the “Ghetto Angels” music video by NoCap during Baker’s trial, in which he was seen brandishing a weapon, to the jury deliberating over Tamarco Head’s murder in 2019.

Later in the week, Steel presented a plea to Judge Ural Glanville, requesting the exclusion of “rap videos, musical lyrics, and similar evidence” in the trial. In his submission, Steel emphasized that the court had conditionally allowed the inclusion of such evidence, provided the prosecution could establish a solid foundation for its relevance. He argued that admitting these elements without a proper foundation infringes upon constitutional and statutory rights, citing concerns over the authorship, creation timeline, production details, lyrical intentions, mindset of the lyricist, and the authenticity of firearms depicted in the videos.

Steel’s request challenges the admissibility of the evidence sought by the prosecution on the grounds that it fails to meet constitutional standards. He highlighted the need for clarity on several aspects, including the lyrics’ authorship, intent behind the lyrics, and the authenticity of the guns shown in the videos, among others.

Since his arrest on May 9, 2022, Young Thug has remained in custody, having been denied bail repeatedly.
