Tesla Recalls All Cybertrucks Due to Accelerator Pedal Issue

Tesla has issued a recall for all 3,878 Cybertrucks shipped so far due to a critical issue where the accelerator pedal can get stuck, increasing the risk of accidents. This recall was announced following reports and an official notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

This action marks a rough patch for Tesla, which also faced corporate turbulence this week, including laying off more than 10% of its workforce and re-evaluating CEO Elon Musk’s substantial compensation package after a legal setback.

The problem with the Cybertruck’s accelerator pedal came to light recently, with users reporting the issue in the past few weeks. Tesla had even halted deliveries temporarily to address the defect. Elon Musk conveyed on the social platform X that Tesla was proceeding with caution.

Further investigation revealed that the pedal could dislodge and become trapped in the vehicle’s trim, posing significant safety risks. This issue was traced back to an “unapproved change” during assembly, where lubricant used to fit the pad onto the accelerator pedal reduced its adherence, leading to potential dislodgment.

Tesla confirmed that it will be replacing or fixing the accelerator pedal on all affected Cybertrucks. Additionally, the company is in the process of manufacturing new Cybertrucks with an updated pedal design and is addressing the issue in vehicles currently in transit or at delivery centers.

Although the Cybertruck started shipping only recently, this isn’t its first recall—earlier this year, there was a minor software recall related to the size of the font on warning lights.
