Miley Cyrus Says She Wrote Her Beyoncé Collab, "II Most Wanted," Over Two Years Ago

Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé

Miley Cyrus is opening up about her “II Most Wanted” collaboration with Beyoncé for her “Cowboy Carter” album and how the beautiful song came about.

During her recent chat with W Magazine, the former child star shared that she initially wrote “II Most Wanted” over two years ago but never released it. When Bey reached out to work with her, Cyrus says she knew the song had finally found a home.

“So when Beyoncé reached out to me about music, I thought of it right away because it really encompasses our relationship. I told her, ‘We don’t have to get country; we are country. We’ve been country.’ I said, ‘You know, between you being from Texas and me being from Tennessee, so much of us is going to be in this song.’ Getting to write a song, not just sing, for Beyoncé was a dream come true,” Cyrus told the outlet.

The moment was full circle for Cyrus, who had previously been on stage with Bey during a Stand Up to Cancer benefit performance. Cyrus was only 14 at the time and as a thank you, the Houston singer sent Cyrus a House of Deréon jacket that spelled “Miley” on the back in gold rhinestuds, followed by jeans from the clothing line that also featured her name on them. Bey followed up on Cyrus’s 16th birthday with another customized Deréon piece, establishing a special bond with her fellow superstar.

Elsewhere in the chat, Cyrus also pointed out the similarities between her mother, Tish, and Tina Knowles, known to many as Ms. Tina. Their relationship with their moms has also brought Bey and Cyrus closer together.

“One of the things that we text about is our relationships with our mothers. Like her mom, Ms. Tina, my mom is also an ‘M.T.,’ Mama Tish. A lot of people call her Mom, in the way that Ms. Tina is almost not just a mother to Beyoncé, but to Beyoncé’s fans as well,” pointing out that like Tina, Tish was also on the road with her a lot growing up, acting as a stylist and seamstress for her.
