In news that might disappoint “Sex and the City” fans, Kim Cattrall has announced she won’t be reprising her iconic role as Samantha Jones in the third season of “And Just Like That…”. This follows her brief cameo in the Season 2 finale, which gave fans a nostalgic flash of Samantha’s sass.
Earlier this month, rumors sparked by a Life & Style report suggested that Cattrall might be negotiating a return for the new season. However, the actress quickly shut down these speculations on social media. In response to a headline suggesting her comeback, Cattrall graciously clarified, “Aw that’s so kind but I’m not.”

Cattrall played the confident and bold Samantha Jones from the show’s original run in 1998 through 2004, including the two film adaptations released in 2008 and 2010. Despite the show’s revival, Cattrall has been open about her decision not to join her former co-stars, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, in the reboot, which debuted in 2021. She cited behind-the-scenes differences, particularly with Parker, as a reason for her absence.
In her cameo for the Season 2 finale, which aired in August 2023, Samantha’s appearance was a memorable moment for fans. The scene featured Samantha speaking to Carrie Bradshaw (played by Parker) over the phone, capturing a brief but nostalgic essence of their friendship, despite the actresses not sharing the screen together.
Cattrall revealed on “The View” that her return for the cameo required some conditions, including the involvement of original “Sex and the City” costume designer Pat Field, to bring back that iconic Samantha style. Although Field was busy with “Emily in Paris,” her former team members Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago stepped in for the “And Just Like That…” series.
As filming for Season 3 is underway in New York City, the show is set to premiere on Max in 2025.
