Nicki Minaj recently shouted out pop star Sabrina Carpenter, an artist currently dominating a genre that Minaj is all too familiar with.
The pop star recently tweeted, “This one’s for Nicki,” in reference to her current chart feud with Travis Scott.

If you recall, Minaj and Scott were embroiled in a slight beef during her “Queen” album rollout when she called him out for offering merch and tickets to boost his album sales to surpass her. Now, Carpenter is in a similar situation, with Scott re-releasing his “Days Before Rodeo” mixtape on its tenth anniversary, battling the singer for the number one Billboard spot.
Minaj seemingly got a whiff of Carpenter’s dilemma, showing love to her and her fans during Thursday’s Instagram Live. Considering her own pop era, Minaj is no stranger to what it takes to make waves in this arena.
It has been speculated that Minaj isn’t a fan of her older pop hits. However, that has not stopped fans from celebrating these catchy tracks. The 41-year-old may be one of the top female rappers, but she has long cited icons such as Madonna and Britney Spears as musical influences. She frequently collaborated with the Princess of Pop, Ariana Grande, with their arsenal including “Side to Side,” “The Light Is Coming,” and “Bang Bang” with Jessie J. In addition to these memorable classics, Minaj’s solo pop hits helped propel her to international superstardom.
“Super Bass” is arguably one of Minaj’s most iconic records. Blending contemporary and hip-hop, this infectious 2010 single is a certified diamond in the U.S. Continuing her trajectory, “Pound the Alarm” arrived in 2012 as a high-energy track with strong dance and reggaeton elements. The platinum-selling tune is defined by its pulsating beat and catchy chorus making it a staple at parties and clubs worldwide. Another standout is Minaj’s “The Night Is Still Young” from her 2014 album, “The Pinkprint.” This anthem is a celebration of living in the moment and was yet another to achieve platinum status.
In recent years, Minaj has continued to tread the line of pop-rap, especially with her and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World.” While the track was nominated for Best Rap Song at the 2024 Grammys, its sample of Aqua’s 1997 “Barbie Girl” certainly applied pop elements for fans of both styles to enjoy.
Nicki Minaj’s appreciation for pop music is evident in her diverse discography, which demonstrates that she is not just a rapper but a multifaceted artist capable of conquering any lane.
