Bush’s jersey was removed in 2010 when the university was hit with sanctions by the NCAA for improper benefits received between 2003 and 2005. Bush relinquished his Heisman Trophy and remained adamant that until his name was placed alongside the other Heisman winners in the Peristyle and his trophy was returned, he would not participate in any events with the Trojans.
In April, Bush finally received his trophy back, and now it appears he will have his jersey back where it rightfully belongs. Bush has long aspired to lead the team out of the tunnel once the sanctions were resolved, and he told the Los Angeles Times last week that day is coming. It is reported that the specific game for the jersey retirement this season has not yet been chosen, but the electrifying running back will finally be able to lead his alma mater onto the field.
He will be joined by the most recent Heisman winner in USC history, 2024 NFL Draft’s number one pick, quarterback Caleb Williams. USC announced the jersey retirement with cameos from musical legends like John Legend and Snoop Dogg, as well as former teammates and women’s basketball star JuJu Watkins.
Williams was sensational for the Trojans in his two seasons, throwing for over 8,000 yards and accounting for 94 touchdowns both through the air and on the ground. Check out the legendary video below of Williams’ induction.
