Master P Retiring from Rap After Essence Fest: “Say Hello to Coach P” [Video]

Master P’s rise to fame is a remarkable story filled with life lessons and wisdom.  In a recent interview with Pastor Jamal Bryant on his “Let’s Be Clear” podcast, the legendary “No Limit” boss reflected on his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a high-profile figure within the music industry. During the conversation, Master P spoke candidly about how he learned to redefine wealth while crafting a lane for others.

“Anytime I start a business, I find the problem,” Master P said. “I seen the problem was it was nobody [that] looked like us was successful in the music business at that higher level without having somebody else as a partner to bring them along. So I figured if we’re going to bridge the wealth gap, then we need to at least start controlling some of these things.”

In his early rap days, Master P revealed that he used an unconventional method to sell his CDs. Taking the same approach as Avon saleswomen, the rapper started selling his music from his trunk. Additionally, in the interview, Master P recalled a high school memory involving his counselor. According to the “Bout it, bout it” rapper, the counselor showed no faith in him after learning that Master P was going to college.

“I had people tell me I wasn’t going to be nothing,” Master P added. “My senior year in high school, when I graduated, I told the counselor I said, ‘I’m going to college.’ He said, ‘Man, you ain’t going to no college.’ I really wanted to beat this man up. I was holding back. I was like, ‘What you mean I ain’t going? No, you gonna be like the rest of them back here.’ Do you know when I made it, that man said, ‘You got work for me? I always knew you was going to be a star.'”

As of now, Master P is focused on empowering the youth through his Team Hope foundation, which aims to uplift and serve underprivileged kids.

“I want to save the next generation,” he emphasized. “I don’t want us to give up on us because what if somebody gave up on me? I wouldn’t be here right now.”
