Sonny Digital Shades Celebrities Announcing Their Twitter Departures: "Just Delete Your Account"

Music producer Sonny Digital is throwing shade at celebrities who’ve recently announced their departure from Twitter for good.

On Friday, the music producer, who has worked with superstars like Don Toliver, 50 Cent, Future, and Travis Scott, tweeted, “Announcing that you are leaving X on X is funny as hell. Just delete your account.”

Announcing that you are leaving X on X is funny as hell. Just delete your account….

— Sonny (@SonnyDigital) November 15, 2024

His comments come after A-listers such as Gabrielle Union, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Lemon, and even horror author Stephen King revealed they were stepping away from the site. A wave of users are pointing to the platform’s toxic environment and controversial new terms of service as their reasons for leaving. One of the most significant updates came into play on Friday, November 15th, when Twitter rolled out revised terms requiring all users to consent to their posts being used for training artificial intelligence, including Twitter’s own AI service, Grok. Previously, users had the option to opt-out.

November 6th marked a dramatic shift for the app, as it saw its largest user exodus since Elon Musk took over in 2022. Many are also speculating that Musk’s influence helped shape the social media landscape in ways that contributed to Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential victory.

Despite the outrage, many corporations have ended their boycotts of the app. AdWeek reports that Comcast, IBM, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Lionsgate Entertainment have resumed advertising on Twitter after a year-long hiatus. These companies had pulled back due to concerns over content moderation but are now cautiously resuming their ad campaigns.
