Alabama A&M Retracts Death Announcement for Football Player Medrick Burnett Jr., Confirms He’s in Stable Condition

Alabama A&M University issued an emotional retraction Wednesday, correcting an earlier announcement of the death of football player Medrick Burnett Jr. The university confirmed that Burnett, a redshirt freshman linebacker, is alive and remains in stable condition at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Burnett sustained a head injury during an October game against Alabama State and has been hospitalized ever since. Burnett, a native of Lakewood, California, transferred to Alabama A&M from Grambling State University in Louisiana. According to Alabama A&M’s athletics website, he played in seven games this season, recording five tackles, including three against Austin Peay.
