Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Thanksgiving holiday took an unexpected and terrifying turn when his home was swatted.
According to TMZ, the Los Angeles Police Department rushed to the scene after a call reported that a bomb had been placed in the “Terminator” star’s mailbox. Officers scoured the area but found no bomb. Sources revealed that Schwarzenegger’s security team told police that it would be nearly impossible for anyone to get close enough to plant a bomb, thanks to the 24-hour security and video surveillance Schwarzenegger had in place to protect his family.
Shockingly, Schwarzenegger wasn’t even home when police arrived. The actor-turned-politician had been at the gym before joining his family for the holiday. No arrests have been made related to the bomb threat, but Schwarzenegger’s representatives expressed their “gratefulness” that authorities are investigating the incident.
This follows a disturbing trend of high-profile figures being targeted with bomb threats. Just days ago, President-elect Donald Trump disclosed that members of his cabinet had received similar threats, including Congressman Matt Gaetz, who had a bomb squad sent to his home. Even members of the Democratic party have been swatted. One of the most bizarre incidents happened earlier this year, when a 911 call about a fire in the White House led to an emergency response team showing up, only to discover the call was a complete hoax.
Celebrities such as Nicki Minaj, Kris Jenner, and Snoop Dogg have also been victims of swatting throughout the years, which is the act of tricking emergency services into responding to a fake emergency situation.
