Drake is making waves again, but this time it’s not for his music. Popular YouTuber and reaction channel creator No Life Shaq has taken issue with the rapper after discovering he was named in a lawsuit involving Universal Music Group (UMG). The case stems from Drake’s claims about the spread of his Kendrick Lamar diss track, “Not Like Us,” which reportedly made headlines last year.
In the lawsuit, Drake accuses UMG of allowing reaction channels, YouTubers, and content creators to monetize their coverage of the track, allegedly amplifying its reach and harming his reputation. Among those named was No Life Shaq, one of the most recognizable faces in the music reaction community. Shaq wasn’t having it, though, and he took to his platform to address the situation head-on in a video titled, “Ain’t No Way Drake Snitching on Me.”
“Man, ain’t no way! Drake, you out here naming us in your lawsuit? Bro, this has to be the softest move in hip-hop history!” Shaq exclaimed at the start of his video.
In his 10-minute reaction, Shaq didn’t hold back as he shared his disbelief that Drake would go as far as to call out YouTubers, claiming their reactions had somehow defamed his image. “This dude really said UMG gave us permission to monetize our videos just to make him look bad,” Shaq explained. “We were gonna react to it anyway, whether we got paid or not!”
Shaq also took a moment to educate Drake on the challenges reaction channels already face with copyright claims. “Do you know how much music we react to that gets copyrighted? A ton! We don’t even care about getting paid for most of it. We’re here because we love the music and the culture,” he said.
One of the most heated moments in Shaq’s response came when he directly accused Drake of violating hip-hop’s unspoken code of conduct. “This is snitching, plain and simple. You don’t name people like this in lawsuits. You supposed to keep it in the streets,” he said, visibly frustrated.
Shaq noted that Drake’s lawsuit also mentioned other prominent creators, including Kai Cenat, RDCWorld, and Zias, among others. “You didn’t just name me, you threw all the big channels in there too. If you’re gonna name us, name everybody!”
The controversy stems from last year’s heated rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, where both rappers exchanged bars in one of the most talked-about diss track battles in recent memory. Reaction channels were buzzing as the two heavyweights dropped back-to-back tracks, reigniting excitement in the rap community.
But according to Shaq, Drake’s move to involve creators is a bad look. “Let’s be real, if you had won that beef, this wouldn’t even be happening,” he said. “Nobody was defaming you—we were just hyped about the music!”
Shaq also pointed out the irony in Drake’s claims. “You’re saying UMG let us avoid copyright so we could spread this beef further? Bro, we would’ve reacted to it whether it got blocked or not! That’s how much the culture loves this kind of stuff.”
Since posting his video, Shaq has received overwhelming support from fans and fellow creators, who agree that the lawsuit could set a dangerous precedent for content creators in the music space. Many argue that reaction channels promote music rather than defame it, helping songs reach new audiences.
Shaq ended his video with a message for Drake. “You can’t take this out on us. We’re just fans of the music and the culture. Don’t try to shut us down because you didn’t like how things played out.”
What do you think about Drake’s decision to call out reaction channels? Is this a step too far, or does he have a point? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
