They Not Like Him! Kendrick Lamar Becomes the First Rapper With Three Albums in Billboard 200 Top 10

Kendrick Lamar has made history once again.

On Sunday, February 16th, Billboard revealed its latest Billboard 200 chart, and Lamar became the first rapper ever to have three albums simultaneously in the top 10. His latest release, “GNX,” shot back to number one, moving a stunning 236,000 equivalent album units. This includes 116,000 pure album sales. “GNX” initially debuted at number one in November with an impressive 319,000 units in its first week.

Additionally, two of Lamar’s classic albums also reentered the top 10. His 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning “DAMN” rose from number 29 to number 9 with 39,000 units, while his 2012 breakout “good kid, m.A.A.d city” climbed from number 27 to number 10 with 37,000 units.

Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show on February 9th certainly played a role in his latest Billboard accomplishment. The performance sparked a streaming eruption, adding 15 million monthly Spotify listeners. His performance, which featured appearances from SZA, Serena Williams, and Samuel L. Jackson, boasts over 68 million YouTube views. It came just a week after he dominated the Grammy Awards on February 2nd, sweeping each category that his iconic diss track, “Not Like Us,” was nominated in.

This April, Lamar is set to embark on the Grand National Tour with SZA, making it clear he will not be slowing down anytime soon.
