During his appearance on The Jay Hill Podcast, Davis said Mayweather gave him no choice. “I was in a lose-lose situation,” he said. “He was like, you gotta fight this fighter, which is Jose Pedraza. If you don’t fight him, you’re not fighting—you sitting on the shelf.”
At the time, Gervonta claims, “I had to fight him. In the middle of all that, I got evicted and had to sell my jewelry.”
Jay Hill asked, “So do you think Floyd did that intentionally?”
“Yeah, for sure, yeah,” said Davis.
According to Davis, it had to do with Mayweather’s daughter, Yaya.
“They tried to say I was messing with his daughter. She kept hitting me on Snapchat,” Davis explained. “They sent it to Floyd, and he bugged out.”
That was a turning point in their relationship and things went downhill from there. What started as a mentor-protégé bond turned into a full-on fallout.
