In an interview with Big Boy, the rapper and actor recalled a debate where he posed the question: “Do you all think I’m the antithesis of Trump?” He continued, “They said, ‘Yes, we do.’ I said, ‘Then why don’t you all take care of me like white people take care of Trump?’”
The “Play” performer further pointed out how Black people often revere entertainers who treat them poorly, explaining, “We are addicted to people that treat us like white people treat us.”
The 50-year-old highlighted that those working for the collective good, such as Killer Mike, are underappreciated and overlooked. Banner criticized the lack of backing for those who have paved the way, saying, “You don’t take care of your OGs. I don’t want to be an OG in the Black community because we don’t take care of our elders. We don’t take care of our leaders.”
Banner also shared a personal example of feeling neglected. He recalled reaching out to friends to see if they had watched his work on “The Family Business,” only to be met with disinterest.
“You’re the first one to benefit off of my success, but you don’t even consume it,” he shared.
