Blog – Ladies, It’s Okay To Do It, Enjoy It & Do It Again

Over the weekend I happened to pick up the November issue of ESSENCE and skim through it. In the issue, Gabrielle Union discussed being the main character in BET’s Being Mary Jane. She said a few things I found interesting, one quote stuck with me. She said,  “Enjoying sex doesn’t make you a ho.  I hope people will be more forgiving of those who explore their sexuality unapologetically.”

Instantly I began thinking. Why is it that in 2013 we as women are still made to feel dirty about sex? Think about it. Women are not allowed to have sex, think about sex, or even talk about sex without being labeled a whore. We’re made to feel like sex with more than one person in our lifetime is punishable by death and that being the slightest bit sexual obviously makes you a bad person. Women are only allowed to have sex with their husband, not allowed to explore or experiment and if she dares has sex with no strings attached, she’s a hoe. It’s 2014 and we’re still not allowed to be anything other than old maids. Go figure.

When the number of sexual partners is brought up, men wear their high number as a badge of honor while women’s number, regardless of whether it’s “high” or “low” is a scarlet letter. When women talk sexual partners, men instantly bring up the subject of STD’s. Obviously because it’s scientifically proven that men don’t contract STDs.

Through out history men have used the size of their penis to measure their power and in 2013 it’s about time that women employ the same thinking. Women should embrace the power they hold between their legs instead of being ashamed of it. This isn’t to say that women should go out and start sleeping with every thing walking, but study and understand the “Power of the P” and how you can make it work for you. That’s what men do everyday, isn’t it?

Think about it. Men get tired of your nagging? He puts the D on you. Men want something? He puts the D on you. Is he just feeling frisky today? He puts the D on you. You should be allowed to put the P right back on him without being burned at the stake.

I want to use this to start a discussion. A real discussion as to why men and women are seen differently in the world of sex and if there will ever be a time in the foreseeable future where women will be allowed a little more sexual leniency. Why must we only enjoy sex with our husbands while our husbands enjoy sex with every thing walking? Not that we’re asking to cheat, but if there must be a playing field, why can’t it be leveled?
