Actor Malik Yoba has sparked a conversation over the weekend with his latest declaration on racial identity in America.

In a video explanation via Instagram, Yoba announced that he no longer identifies as a Black man, rejecting commonly used terms like BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color). Instead, he proposes a new approach—identifying simply as “non-white.”

“America? I’ve decided that I’m no longer a Black man. I’m no longer a person of color, BIPOC, none of that s**t,” Yoba stated. “What I am is a non-white man. And I think we should all just start calling ourselves non-white. So, they’re gonna have to figure it out.”

Yoba’s remarks appear to be a response to shifting conversations around race, particularly in corporate and political spaces where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are being rolled back. He argues that by uniting under the term “non-white,” marginalized groups can expose the system’s underlying biases.

“Let them rebuke that. Let them refute it,” Yoba continued. “Let them come up with something that just says we like all non-whites. Excuse me. We don’t like all non-whites.”

His statement has ignited debate in his comment section, with some praising his stance as a strategic move and others questioning its implications.
