Kelvin Joseph Jr., a former Dallas Cowboys player now in the UFL, is facing serious legal trouble after allegedly driving under the influence in a crash that left a motorcyclist dead.
The Richardson Police Department confirmed the 25-year-old cornerback for the D.C. Defenders was arrested early Saturday morning, June 7th, following a fatal collision on US-75 in the Dallas suburb. Authorities responded to the scene around 4:50 a.m., where they discovered a motorcyclist, later identified as 27-year-old Cody Morris of Plano, Texas, had died.
Police say Joseph called Plano Police and admitted involvement in the crash.
“Richardson Police Department Officers contacted Joseph and determined he was northbound on North Central Expressway in a BMW sedan when he was involved in a collision with the motorcycle,” officials said. “While speaking with Joseph, officers observed signs of intoxication.”
Joseph was taken into custody at 7:45 a.m. and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and felony collision involving death. Jail records show his bond hasn’t been set.
The cornerback, once a second-round NFL Draft pick by the Cowboys in 2021, played with Dallas until 2023 before bouncing around teams like the Dolphins, Seahawks, Colts, Chiefs, and Vikings.
This isn’t Joseph’s first brush with the law. In 2022, he was a passenger in a vehicle linked to a fatal shooting but was cleared as a suspect and faced no NFL suspension.
The D.C. Defenders are set to play the St. Louis Battlehawks in Sunday’s UFL conference championship.
