Diddy Scores Partial Win as Dawn Richard Drops 10 Companies from Lawsuit, But the Legal Fight Rages On

Dawn Richard and Diddy

After weeks of testimony, legal fireworks, and high-profile reactions, Sean “Diddy” Combs walked away from federal court with a partial win. He was found guilty on two counts related to prostitution, but acquitted of the heavier racketeering and sex trafficking charges.

While that might’ve had some folks celebrating online, Dawn Richard’s legal team made it clear—they’re far from finished.
Dawn, who’s been open about her own disturbing experiences with Combs during the Making the Band era, is still pursuing a civil lawsuit against the hip hop mogul. And her powerhouse attorney, Lisa Bloom, didn’t waste time issuing a statement following the verdict.

“Today’s split verdict is a disappointment, but the criminal charges are different than the civil claims we filed,” Bloom stated. “We will continue to aggressively fight our case until we obtain full and complete justice for Dawn.”

Translation? Diddy may have escaped the most serious charges this time, but his legal troubles are far from over.

Richard’s lawsuit, filed late last year, accuses Combs of emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse, along with claims of starvation and sleep deprivation during her time with the group Danity Kane under Bad Boy Entertainment. The suit details allegations that go beyond what was addressed in the federal criminal trial.

Unlike criminal court, where guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, civil court operates under a lower standard—making it easier to hold public figures accountable.
