Singer Robbie Pardlo of City High Dies at 46

The R&B community is mourning a huge loss. Robbie Pardlo, the lead singer of the early 2000s hit group City High, has passed away at the age of 46. A representative confirmed to TMZ that Pardlo died on July 17th, surrounded by family and close friends in Willingboro, New Jersey.

The cause of death is currently unknown. In a statement, the family said they are grieving privately and plan to announce memorial service details soon.

Pardlo’s voice became iconic after the success of City High’s breakout hit “What Would You Do?” produced by Wyclef Jean. The track, which tackled real-life issues like poverty, single parenthood, and survival, resonated with audiences worldwide and earned the group a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group in 2002. Their second hit, “Caramel,” featured rapper Eve and kept the momentum going, solidifying City High’s place in early 2000s music history.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Pardlo wasn’t just a one-album wonder. After City High, he continued pursuing music, joining the R&B quartet First Take. He also worked behind the scenes, collaborating with some of music’s biggest names, including Whitney Houston and Lil’ Kim.

Outside the studio, Pardlo was a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan. According to those close to him, seeing the Eagles win their most recent championship was one of his proudest non-musical moments.

He is survived by his wife Anika Pardlo, their two children Lyric and Chord-Andrew, his mother Marion, his brother Gregory, who is a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and college professor, and his aunt Cynthia Boyer.

His passing marks the end of a remarkable journey through the highs and lows of the music business. Whether on stage with Claudette Ortiz and Ryan Toby or working in the background with R&B royalty, Robbie’s contribution to the genre left an undeniable imprint.
