DFA Dairy Brands, LLC has issued a recall for 324 cartons of Friendly’s 48 fl. oz. Cookies & Cream ice cream after a packaging mix-up put customers with allergies at risk. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the announcement on Wednesday, August 6th.

According to the FDA, the affected product was packaged in a Vanilla Bean ice cream carton but topped with a Cookies & Cream lid. This labeling error means the Vanilla Bean carton does not list soy and wheat as ingredients. The agency warned that people allergic to soy or wheat could face a “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” if they consume the mislabeled ice cream.

The recalled ice cream has a best-by date of November 26th, 2025, and was sent to stores in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. As of August 6th, there have been no reports of illnesses connected to the product.

This recall comes just days after another product warning from the FDA. On Monday, August 4, the agency announced the recall of 12,000 packages of 10-count Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies due to “foreign material (wood).” That recall was classified as a Class II alert, meaning the product could cause temporary health issues or pose a remote risk of serious harm.

The affected cookies were distributed to Target stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.

Both recalls highlight the importance of double-checking packaging and ingredient labels before consuming any product, especially for those with food allergies or sensitivities. The FDA continues to monitor these situations closely to ensure affected products are removed from store shelves.
