Mattel has released a new Barbie Tribute doll honoring Debbie Allen, recognizing her impact as a dancer, actor, director, and mentor.
Allen shared her excitement in a statement, saying, “I am so excited to join the Barbie Tribute Collection. From the time I was a young girl, I’ve been passionate about using my creative outlets to inspire and uplift others. That mission has guided me throughout my life, from my performances to founding the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, and it is such a joy to continue this journey alongside Barbie. My hope is that by sharing my story, young people see that their greatest gift to the world is sharing their own unique talents.”
Allen is best known for her role as Lydia Grant in “Fame,” appearing in both the movie and television series. She also has an extensive career directing shows such as “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “A Different World,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “That’s So Raven,” “Scandal,” and “Insecure.”
The doll reflects her iconic Lydia Grant look, featuring a shimmery off-shoulder top with a gold belt, purple fringe pants, and legwarmers.
Krista Berger, Senior Vice President of Barbie and Mattel, said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Debbie Allen into the Barbie Tribute Collection. Like Barbie, she’s proof you don’t have to choose just one dream—you can be a dancer, actor, director, and more.”
The Debbie Allen Barbie Tribute doll is available online at Mattel and Amazon, and in stores at Walmart and Target.
