Gucci Mane is taking a moment to look back at his early career with honesty and reflection.

During a recent appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” the rapper spoke openly about how his earlier music influenced fans to see drug use as something acceptable or even cool. While he’s made peace with that part of his journey, he admits it’s not something he celebrates.

“I can live with it now because it is what it is,” Gucci explained. “But back then, I know that I made a lot of people use drugs. I talked about drugs, drugs, drugs, drugs all through my music because that’s what I was on back then. Now I’m just like, damn. I know I made a whole bunch of people think pills was cool. I know that for a fact. And that ain’t nothing I’m just super proud of, you know? But what can I do? It’s in the past now. At the same time, I was also a user too, so I was going through it with them.”

The conversation was sparked by a section in his new book “Episodes” where Gucci discusses the guilt he’s carried over his influence in hip-hop. His hit single “Pillz” from 2006 became a defining record for his early sound, but in hindsight, he recognizes its consequences.

Gucci recalled that when he first shared the song, not everyone believed in it.

“They thought that was junkie stuff,” he said, describing how his team initially didn’t see the potential for a track that referenced drug culture so directly. But the song took off, becoming part of the wave that would define a generation of trap music.

Now years removed from that lifestyle, Gucci Mane says he views his past with more maturity and understanding. He’s focused on growth, self-awareness, and using his platform to set a better example.
