It was announced earlier this week that Michael Strahan would be leaving ‘Live With Kelly And Michael’ to take a seat on ‘Good Morning America.’ While many congratulate Strahan on his new venture, his now former co-star isn’t too pleased.
Sources connected to Kelly Ripa tell TMZ that though Michael was under strict orders, by the powers that be, not to tell anyone about his move, Kelly feels betrayed that she wasn’t given a heads up. Kelly believes she was blindsided by Michael’s announcement after being notified by ABC’s owner, Disney, just minutes before the public.
The crazy thing about all of this is that this isn’t coming from a ‘friendly’ place. According to that same source, Kelly and Michael don’t even get along. Kelly reportedly feels that Michael is arrogant and disrespectful to her. She says he doesn’t sit with her and often keeps an entourage around. How these two made it through 4 seasons and 20 guest appearances is beyond me.
Kelly Ripa fueled rumors when she did not appear on Wednesday’s episode of the show. A spokeswoman for the show simply said “Kelly had the day off today.” She did not offer a response to any followup questions and did not acknowledge whether or not Kelly will return to the show later this week. In the meantime, actress Ana Gasteyer filled in.
Michael took the high road on Wednesday, taking time at the end of the show to thank Kelly for welcoming him and teaching him the ropes.
Michael’s departure from the show does not take place until September. Let’s hope these two hash it out soon.
I wonder what the real tea is. If Kelly and Michael don’t get along, why would she care if he left? Maybe she wanted GMA for herself? I mean, “Live” has been around for over 30 years, starting with Regis & Kathie Lee, to Regis & Kelly, now Kelly & Michael. The show has seen many hosts come and go. There has to be more to Kelly’s animosity.
