There’s no doubt that the death of Aaliyah effected many lives, namely the life of her fiance at the time, Damon Dash.
Dash has been really open in the past about how Aaliyah’s death changed him for the worst. On an episode of Family Therapy, he says the death of both Aaliyah and his mother made him a monster.
While a guest on The Real, Damon Dash explained his last words to Aaliyah and how things would have been different had he been present before she got on the plane. He says that they were in Miami together, where Aaliyah was to do a song with Freeway. According to Dame, director Hype Williams suggested that Aaliyah shoot her “Rock The Boat” video in the Bahamas, which Dame was against. Unfortunately, Dame had to go to New York to handle family business, and couldn’t be with Aaliyah as she left Miami.
According to reports, the plane that Aaliyah was supposed to board, was not available, so she ended up having to take a twin–engine Cessna 402B to the Bahamas. Dame says that Aaliyah text his Blackberry before boarding the flight, saying that she was uncomfortable with the plane she was sent. Dame told her not to get on it, but Aaliyah insisted it was what she had to do.
“If I was there, I would have made sure that the G4 jet that was supposed to be for her, she would’ve been on that. I wouldn’t have got on that [Cessna 402B] plane,” said Dame.
Dame and Aaliyah were really in love. It would be interesting to see how different his life would have been had she not died and they got married.
