As we previously reported, Celtics PG Rajon Rondo was ejected Wednesday night following a brief “scuffle” between he and Kris Humphries of the Brooklyn Nets. Well, no deed goes unpunished and the consequences of his actions are coming down.
The NBA has suspended Rondo for two games for the shoving match that spilled into the stands. Kevin Garnett and Gerald Wallace have received fines for their involvement in the fight. Wallace $35,000 and Garnett $25,000.
Although Rondo did not do any post-game interviews, he has spoken out about the fight and suspension. “I know I have to be out there for my teammates, that’s the only thing about it,” Rondo said before the suspension was announced. “But I was sticking up for my teammates. I didn’t try to start a fight. I’m not trying to be a bully. I just didn’t think the play was fair that he made on Kevin, that’s all.” Rondo called the initial foul malicious saying, “I got hurt last year on a similar play like that, a guy going up in the air defenseless, on his way down.
“I don’t think I did anything dirty. I didn’t try to start a riot. I don’t think it was more than just a pushing war.”
