Mona Scott-Young is notoriously known for her shows such as the Love & Hip Hop franchise, Sorority Sisters, and more. These reality shows left many either loving or hating her.
Over the past few years, many have argued that Mona portrays black women as anything but positive. However, she refuses to apologize for her choices.
Mona sat down with Essence Magazine where she says, “I want us to be represented in every shape and form—the good, bad, ugly—because I feel only with full acceptance of everything that comes with us will we ever really embrace ourselves and love ourselves fully. When we are still hiding and ashamed of a piece of who we are, we can never fully become who we are supposed to be.”
Currently, while her Love & Hip Hop franchise is still widely viewed, she has two more shows in the works, one of which profiles Black female attorneys and will air on WEtv. Mona also serves on the board of a nonprofit organization that works to build the well-being of young girls called GrassROOTS Community Foundation.
