Waking up for school has always been difficult, but has proven more difficult for a teenager in Nashville who flew into a rage after being asked to wake up early for school.

Shortly before 7:17 am on Tuesday, the 16-year-old became enraged when his grandmother Earline Hill and mother Sheryl Williams asked him to get ready for school. He threatened the pair before retrieving a 9mm handgun and opening fire in his family’s apartment.

“There was a quarrel about getting up and getting ready for the day when the 16-year-old ran to a closet, got a 9mm handgun and started firing,” Nashville police spokeswoman Kris Mumford said, according to the Tennessean newspaper.

His grandmother was struck at least twice, while his 12 year old sister and 6 year old nephew were grazed by bullets.  Thankfully, none of the wounds were life threatening.

The teen also tried to shoot his mother in the living room of the home, but she ducked behind a couch and avoided being hit. His two year old sister also went uninjured in the shooting.

According to the police, the teen fled on foot, throwing the gun away at a nearby apartment. He was eventually found and arrested while walking near a set of railroad tracks.

He was charged with four counts of attempted homicide and one count of reckless endangerment.

The teen’s family told officers they were not aware the firearm was in the closet. Investigators plan to run tests on the gun to find out where it came from.
