On this day, we’d like to wish a very happy 45th birthday to (the RZA, the GZA, Ol Dirty Bastard, Inspecktah Deck, Raekwon the Chef
U-God, Ghost Face Killa and the..)Â M-E-T-H-O-D MAN! Only real hip hop heads will understand what I did there.
In his over two-decade long career, @methodmanofficial has brought the pain! From our boomboxes, to our television screens and movie theaters, Method Man has always kept us entertained. To celebrate, here are 10 Times Method Man Was All We Needed To Get By.
1. How High (1999)
One of my all time favorite movies. The first movie, as an 80’s baby, that really introduced me to the weed culture. It was also the first time I realized that Method Man and Redman were indeed my generations dynamic duo.Â
2. Martin (1997)
Method Man appeared on Season 5, Episode 12 of Martin. An episode titled “You Play Too Much.” I’ve never wanted to be robbed so bad in my life.Â
3. “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need” ft. Mary J Blige (1994)
This song will always remain one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time, no question. Everything about this song carries a certain nostalgia that will take you back to wherever you were when you first heard it. It was gritty, yet romantic. It was the ghetto love every kid wanted.Â
4. Method Man vs. Wendy Williams (2006)
Method Man does not play games when it comes to his personal life. He went hard for his after Wendy Williams revealed that his wife was battling cancer. Like the king of the jungle, he protected his family. No matter how tough you think it may have been, you’ve gotta respect it. In 2015, Method Man still really wasn’t here for Wendy. He even referred to Wendy as “This Wendy Guy” under one of our #commentcreepin posts on Instagram.
5. Method Man & Redman – “Da Rockwilder” (1999)
This song, though short and sweet, is one of my favorite songs touched by Method Man. It only lost out to “All I Need.” This is such an easily identified song from the second the song plays. Plus, I love any and everything about Meth and Red collab’ing. If you’ve never seen these two live (I’ve seen them 4 times) it is well worth it. The energy is through the roof!
6. “Break Ups 2 Make Ups” ft. D’Angelo (1998)
Okay, I lied. “Break Ups 2 Make Ups” may be the song that beats out “Da Rockwilder” for me. This is a song that takes story telling to another level for Meth. Not just that, the entire scenario hit home. I know this joint front to back, word for word. Definitely one of the dopest Method Man songs to date. Â
7. Wu-Tang Gang Bang (2015)
Remember that time on Divorce Court where a woman said that she had linked up with the WuTang Clan after their concert and her boyfriend accused her of sleeping with them? Baller Alert posted a #CommentCreepin from Method Man, where he spilled the tea on whether or not it really went down like that.Â
8. The Method Man & Redman Show (2004)
Everyone knew that Method Man and Redman were a force to be reckoned with. After a successful music career and a successful film career, Fox greenlit the Method Man and Redman show. Though we only got 12 episodes out of it, the show was pretty funny.Â
9. Belly (1998)
Hype Williams’ cinematography will always be known as legendary, thanks to the movie “Belly.” Method Man was featured in the film, in one of the more memorable scenes. He even had us calling people “The Illest N*gga In Nebraska.”
10. “Triumph” (1997)
I was about 12 or 13 when this song came out. Coming up from the South, I didn’t listen to a lot of hip hop from New York. One song I can always remember loving was Wu Tang’s “Triumph.” The video, in all its corniness, was so ill to me. This is by far a classic hip hop track. Doesn’t matter how old it is, it gets the crowd rocking.Â
Bonus:
Just because I made it this far, I feel like I should drop a few more random Wu favorites.Â
