The Sun Sentinel reports that rapper Kodak Black went before a Ft. Lauderdale judge today to fight two cases that could keep him behind bars for some time.

Kodak Black plead no contest to both cases. His legal team asked for the adjudication to be withheld the cases, that way the #Florida rapper can tour internationally.  “He’s only at the very beginning of a very promising career,” said Michael Kushner, exec VP of legal at Atlantic Records. A longtime friend even spoke on behalf of Kodak saying, “I think he deserves a second chance.”

“It  is our hope that the court will agree that he be given the opportunity to turn his life around,” said Kushner before the Judge ruled.

Judge Lisa Porter accepted Kodak’s plea with would give Kodak a sentence of community control, probation. She has not yet decided on whether to withhold the adjudication. “I will you give you an opportunity, Mr. Octave, to prove yourself here and be a productive member of society,” she tells Kodak. She then reminds him that if he makes a single mistake again, he’s looking at 55 years in prison. “What happens from here on out is up to you,” she warns.

Kodak Black could be released any time now. His release was originally set for today but the judge could not confirm the specific time.

Kodak has been in jail since May. He was picked up in Broward County on charges that included armed robbery and false imprisonment. Weeks before that arrest he was imprisoned for leading police on a a chase after being caught in a drug deal.
