In a community where (in most cases) resources are limited and government funding is scarce, it is important for people who can, to give back. Many superstars use their celebrity to raise awareness and donate millions to their hometown, to provide a better living situation and environment for the children. However, hip-hop icon and #ballerificbusinessman, Sean “Diddy” Combs, just took it one step futher.
According to #Wusa9, #Diddy has donated $1 million to his alma mater #HowardUniversity to help students fund and further their education.
Just before performing at the #VerizonCenter in #WashingtonDC, the music mogul presented a check for $1 million big ones to Howard President #DrWayneFrederick, in his first donation to #TheSeanCombsScholarshipFund.
“One of the biggest blessings is getting the chance to one day be able to give back,” Diddy said. “And to support the people that supported you.”
“If I didn’t get some help, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he added. “I didn’t graduate from Howard. I was blessed to get my honorary degree but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Because the only reason why I was able to chase my dreams was the empowerment that Howard gave me, the support that they gave me, the first two years.”
“Education is an important path to opportunity,” the Bad Boys founder said.
In fall of 2017, the scholarships will be awarded to undergrad students who are studying business. According to reports, in order to qualify, the student must have a 3.0 GPA and validate a need of financial assistance.
The recipents will also be assigned a mentor from #CombEnterprises and spend a summer interning with #BadBoyEntertainment or #Revolt Media & Tv, the publication reports.
